Description

Exceptionally solid and original 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxie 500. It was always a California car until Summer 2021. Purchased from the second family owner who owned it for 30 years. He planned to restore it but had only gotten as far as removing some of the trim. It appears that all trim is still present and some has been replated or replaced with new.

The body is exceptionally solid. She's still wears her original paint and the primer spots shown in the pictures were merely done in preparation for restoration. There are numerous small pieces of painters tape on the body to cover the holes for the trim pieces when removed for plating. All of the bright work is excellent to good driver quality with the exception of the lower front which will need to be re-chromed to match the rest of the car, but the bumper itself is in excellent condition. The original Ford glass is also in good serviceable condition.

The glove box still contains the original owner's manual, many years of registration slips, the original Ford motor company build sheet and author of related literature.

Body panel alignment is excellent. The doors close like new. The trunk compartment is also in very good condition for its age. The original mat is intact and relatively clean. The spare tire well looks nearly new. The original spare wheel wears a new white wall tire. The lug wrench and a bumper jack are included.

She has been driven very little in the last few years, but the engine runs smoothly and quietly. The steering is tight and smooth. The brakes are good as well. The transmission shifts well in all gears.

The exhaust system is nearly new

The interior is all original. The front seat needs new cloth upholstery inserts for the driver's side as the driver's seating position is frayed and worn. The remainder of the upholstery looks very good for original 1959. The door panels and quarter trim panels are also excellent original. The headliner has one tear over the front passenger sun visor, but the c-pillar headliner has been loosened on both sides to allow access to the fasteners for some trim. The original 1959 carpet has heavy wear in the driver's foot well, but the rest is old but serviceable.

The underside of the body is every bit as good as the rest of the body work. There are no signs of damage or significant corrosion underneath the car.

If you would like to restore a 1959 Galaxie you'll be hard-pressed to find a better candidate. She seems to be complete and completely original. The body is fantastic and the mechanical condition supports the second owner's claim that this is an original 56,000 mile car.
