Description
You must see this car in person to fully appreciate how well built it is. I cannot stress this enough. This D Type was built to a very high standard with superior metal work, excellent fit and finish, incredible paintwork and attention to detail.
** NOTE - This D Type in inventory in our US showroom. We have a second long nose / full windscreen car nearly complete at our shop in England. It is waiting for you to choose the paint and leather colors. The estimated completion time on that car is 3 months from color choice. ***
This gorgeous design was born from a time before aerodynamics became ugly. Pure grace and melodic fury describe these vehicles. The twin cam straight 6 is lusty, velvet smooth and delivers enough thrust to propel these lightweight machines at thrilling speeds. The light weight also allows the large disk brakes to perform feats of deceleration which would have seemed miraculous to other vehicles of their era.
This gorgeous D Type recreation is a pure tribute to that era of heroic motoring. The body is English wheel rolled aluminum which is far superior in fitment and finish to the hammered panels offered by some other companies. The metal workmanship is so good that even in bare metal there is a near mirror finish on many of the panels. Every panel, every bracket, every louver and every fitting is custom made and hand fitted to ensure a superb level of fit and finish. The paintwork is outstanding and the tail fin is removeable leaving the fully finished headrest flair. The passenger seat cover is easily removed and stores in the spare wheel compartment. A 5th Dunlop racing wheel and tire are included.
The interior is laid out as original and the instruments replicate the appearance of the originals. The steering wheel is built to the original specs. The seats are trimmed in green leather as were the factory Le Mans cars, and each seat is equipped with a Willians four point racing harness.
The engine is a fully rebuilt 3.8 Jaguar DOHC straight 6 fed by 3 new Weber carbs. Street performance cams, ported and polished straight port head, beautiful stainless steel headers and exhaust, alloy flywheel and a harmonic damper. The engine is lusty and very responsive. It loves to rev and is very tractable and streetable.. The rear exit exhaust makes a deep, mellow, ripping roar but is not too loud. Aesthetically it is a very accurate recreation of the original from the tube frame layout to the replica dry sump oil tank and Plessey pump reservoir. Power is delivered through a new 5 speed gearbox and a remanufactured 3.54 differential. The rack and pinion steering and power disc brakes are wonderfully balanced and precise.
*** This is not a delicate piece of garage art. This car was built to be driven; to be driven passionately and often! ***
The car is dimensionally faithful to the original and the layout of the tubular frame under the bonnet captures the appearance of the original while using later model Jaguar suspension components including the famous independent rear suspension. This gives the car a better ride, superior road holding and more traction than the original.
If you are looking for one of the most beautiful cars the world has ever seen with an exhaust note that gives you goosebumps, then you should consider this D Type.
